Mission Statement

The Center for Anatomy and Cell Biology is dedicated to state of the art research and teaching in the fields:

  • Anatomy
  • Developmental Biology
  • Cell Biology
  • Tissue Biology

Research is bundled in the areas of functional gross morphology, imaging, developmental-, cell-, and tissue biology, epigenetics and RNA biology as well as the genetics of rare diseases. Human material and appropriate model systems are employed to decipher the mechanisms and events during normal and abnormal development and the remodelling of tissues and organs at the sub-cellular, cellular and organismic level.

In teaching, we train the next generation of medical doctors and researchers to successfully tackle the challenges of modern, research-oriented medicine.

Since 03/2020, the Center for Anatomy and Cell Biology is coordinating a Special Research Programme (SFB), which is guided by the SFB speaker Prof. Michael F. Jantsch and addresses the function and physiological impact of RNA modifications.
